The nationwide initiative Tierversuche verstehen sheds light on the yearly report by Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung (BfR; German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment) on the statistics of animals used for scientific purposes in 2021. In this 48-page new issue of Kompass Tierversuche, animal research in Germany is depicted in terms of number of experimental animals used, distribution among animal model organisms, appointed purpose, and severity of experiments. Breakdown of those numbers by federal states are also thoroughly covered. Despite the lowering trend at the federal level, there is an increase in number of animals in the state NRW. Besides, this issue addresses further informative topics about animal research such as myths, animals that are bred but unsuitable for further study, and research highlights from Germany – even with Augmented Reality experience.
