This special day takes place each year on April 24th all around the world. There are many online and on-site activities which focus on animal research, animal welfare, alternatives and other 3R-methods this week to appreciate model animals.

On this occasion, we present you a new page dedicated to the clawed frogs contributing great successes in biomedical basic research for over 100 years as model organisms. In this interactive action, you will experience:

- Why the clawed frogs are used in research
- What characteristics they have as model organism
- Which milestones we have reached thanks to the clawed frogs (Check the interactive timeline)
- Number of animals from the year 2022
- Research examples from North Rhine-Westphalia

We would like to thank sincerely to all network members who contributed to this page “Clawed Frogs in Biomedical Research” from its conceptualization to creation. We wish you a good read!

Last year, we curated statements from the members of the network in North Rhine-Westphalia who expressed how animal experiments can be improved and why they are still needed in biomedical basic research. You can read the statements and accompanying collage art here on our website as well (only in German): Fotocollage 2023
