Jens Kurreck is full Professor for Applied Biochemistry and managing director of the Institute of Biotechnology at the Technische Universität Berlin (TUB), Germany. His research focuses on bioprinting, alternatives to animal testing, RNA technologies, and virology. In 2013, he was visiting professor at the Dongseo University in Busan, Korea. Before his current position, he was professor for Nucleic Acids Technologies at the University of Stuttgart. He did his postdoc at the Arizona State University in Tempe, USA. Kurreck has published approximately 130 papers in peer-reviewed journals, holds several patents and edited various books. He received several awards, including the Herbert-Stiller Prize for animal-free research and the Prize for the Development of Alternatives to Animal Experiments of the city of Berlin in 2019 and the prize for excellent teaching of the TUB in 2020. In 2022, Kurreck was awarded the non-animal method teaching prize by the Berlin animal protection commissioner, and in 2024 his team received an equipment award to the Peta Science Consortium International as well as the shared 4th Hamburg Research Prize for alternative methods to animal testing. He is co-spokesman of the Einstein Center 3R and vice-Chairman of the Commission for Ethics in Research of the TUB.
